The town of Hvar climbs the hillside in tiers of stone and terracotta above a harbour where the masts of small boats catch the morning light. The Paklinski Islands lie offshore, a low green line across the channel. An American couple flew in for a summer wedding here after years of moving through unfamiliar places: backpacking through Southeast Asia, watching the Gili T sunsets, kayaking among the humpback whales of British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest. They took the morning at a hillside villa above Hvar town, the ceremony on the rooftop of Hotel Adriana with the town watching from below, and dinner across the channel on Sveti Klement, the largest of the Paklinski Islands.
